Software Engineer, SmythOS

“Growing up, I could look at a watch and appreciate the engineering behind it but I had some idea of what was happening behind that dial.

But when I looked at a computer screen? My mind was completely blown. I couldn’t fathom how so much was happening on just a screen. That early fascination stuck with me. Add in years of playing video games on my Pentium 4, and somewhere along the way, I realized I wanted to understand how all of this actually worked. That’s what eventually pulled me into software engineering.

I still remember writing my first line of code. Yeah, it was just an <h1> tag in HTML, but seeing that output render on the webpage gave me this rush of satisfaction. That feeling of “”I made this happen”” never really went away.

Since then, I’ve shipped products from scratch to production, reaching thousands of users. But honestly, I don’t just code for work. I keep building side projects in my free time, solutions to actual problems I run into. I also love contributing to open source whenever I can.

I consider myself a generalist and a genuine problem solver. I’m not hung up on specific frameworks or tools. I care about solving the problem well, whatever that takes.

That’s what keeps software engineering exciting for me, there’s always a new challenge, always something that makes you think “”how is this even possible?”” And then you figure it out.”
