System Administrator and Backend Developer, SmythOS

I first booted up a 486 computer using two floppy disks, chasing the thrill of getting Doom or Crest to run just right. Hours were spent tweaking drivers and hunting for every last frame per second—it was gaming that sparked my curiosity, but it was the process of making things work that kept me hooked.

What began as a hobby soon turned into helping others, and that passion ultimately led me to a degree in computer science. My early career spanned network engineering for banks and technical support roles, but I soon found my home in software.

Over the next decade, I led a software solutions company as Director of IT, overseeing the design and development of enterprise-grade systems for insurance quoting and onboarding. Our solutions integrated with platforms like Insurica, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, UHC and even healthcare.gov—requiring HIPAA compliance and secure deployments on AWS GovCloud.

Since COVID, I’ve pivoted to working as a freelance systems administrator, supporting companies at the forefront of blockchain and AI.

I’m still driven by the same thing that pulled me in as a kid: solving problems, learning by doing, and helping others find their way through tech.
